Our Church
Welcome to the Church of Praise website. We are glad that you have taken the time to explore and find out more about us.
Church of Praise is a Christ-centered, biblically grounded church. We are committed to sharing God’s love by bringing people into His family and membership in the church, discipling them to be like Christ and equipped for the mission to serving the community through our passionate worship to God.
We believe in the power of prayer and as a church we deeply desire to, not just know about God but to know God and to experience Him in our lives daily and personally. We are witnesses of the miracle of prayer which has transformed and energized us to nurture relationships with one another and to others in the community through works of kindness and love.
You may be seeking for the truth and meaning in life. We believe we have the answer.

Our History
In 1985, Church of Praise existed only as a dream in the minds of 4 pastors and a handful of lay people. It was a formidable dream that called for faith, perseverance and sacrifice. To make the dream a reality, the group began by giving financially and performing every task that would get the new church started.
The first worship service took place at 10.00 a.m., Sunday, 13th July 1986, 23 Christians attended the service at the Cairnhill Plaza home of a member of the group. The pioneer group was united in faith and perserverance, praying much for the Lord’s guidance and direction. The Lord is faithful and during the first public worship service (which was held in the Hibiscus Room of the Hyatt Hotel on Sunday, 3rd August 1986), 168 persons attended! From then, Church of Praise continues to grow rapidly and before the end of 1986, a Chinese Service, bible classes, home cell groups, youth and children ministry and Praise Power Night were started.
Church of Praise was registered as a society on 6 Feb 1987. On 31st March 1987, the Church was set in order and recognized by the Assemblies of God of Singapore as a sovereign entity. There were a total of 111 persons taken into membership as Chartered Members. An office facility was secured at 23 Westlake Avenue. There was an expansion of both ministerial and administrative staff.
By January 1992, the average attendance per Sunday was 1,500. There were 4 overseas and 3 local extension works. These were serviced by a full-time staff strength of 15 pastors and ministers and 10 administrative staff. The following years saw a consolidation and merging of some of the local extension works.
In May 1992, the East Coast Branch (now known as Bethesda Cathedral) went independent
After the consolidation the congregation stabilised at an average of 950 per Sunday with worship services at Singapore Power (SP) Auditorium in Somerset Road.
Then, in July 1994, the West Branch which held their services at the Concorde Hotel rejoined the congregation services at the SP Auditorium.
We rejoice to see two of our missions outreaches having grown to be self-propagating works. Our Filipino Fellowship has been encouraged to take steps of faith since August 1995 to be self-supporting. By December 1996, they showed that they are fully able to support their own work. We are pleased to release them to be a new church “Living Word Fellowship”.
Church of Praise (Johor Bahru) has also been released to be a self-supporting church in June 1996. Our missions fund has helped them in their pioneering days. Today, they are not only supporting all of their own ministries, they are taking steps of faith to reach the lost in missions too.
In the closing months of 1998, a new vision to serve the community was born. We began a student care program that will make a difference for working parents and their children. This vision fits into the objectives of the church to reach the community with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ through social concern. Thus, The Stepping Stone Student Care was launched in January 2000.
To give members a platform to get involved with the community, Community Concern Services was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies on 25 June 2004. To date, regular outreaches are made to Bright Hill Evergreen Home, Man Fut Tong Nursing Home and Art & Craft therapy program at the Singapore General Hospital. These outreaches were well received and in 2005, a total of 35 salvations came from all our outreach efforts. The Bright Hill Evergreen Home outreach has seen many residents receiving Jesus as their personal Saviour. Starting from 2006, this outreach will now go under the Chinese zone cell with members going weekly to fellowship and encourge the residents in the Word.
As we continue to look to the Lord for guidance and direction in the days ahead, one thing is clear. We need to look for our own facility to locate our Sunday and weekday activities under one roof. We would also like to use a big part of this new facility for community programs which the Lord has put in the hearts of many members in the congregation.
The days ahead are exciting days as we pray and move to fulfill the Lord’s plan for Church of Praise.
